But, you don’t necessarily need the most expensive one either – you need the right one for YOU.
The courts are supposed to be impartial, but anyone who has been to court knows that this isn’t always true. What does impartiality have to do with it? Well, the courts are supposed to work based on a set of rules. Judges and attorneys are supposed to work within the confines of those rules. In that sense, one attorney might not be better than the next (on a level playing field), but again, that is not always the case. One lawyer may have a significantly superior skillset than another, or the backing of a large firm – those are things that will help – but they may cost you (financially).
Each client has different needs, but MANY of those needs are also fairly common. Preparing financial statements, drafting motions, etc. are all pretty straight forward (unless you have millions of dollars in assets and multiple properties, etc.). Many of those actions are just drawn up from templates – in a sense, it’s not ‘rocket science’. But each attorney is certainly going to bill you for filling out and filing the forms. More or less, any attorney can do this, but the financial cost to you will be very different.
Finding the right attorney isn’t easy, trust me, I’ve had a few. But, you can do it. You can find an attorney who speaks to you, your needs and your situation. You need to be more than just their next client!
If you’d like to discuss how to best work with your attorney, let’s get together and make a plan!
